A Variety of Cases

I have been sitting here going over my list of cases and nothing is really jumping out at me. I have researched one and working on it now but when it comes time to put it all together I like for things to be really quiet so I can think a little more clearly and put it together better. That only generally occurs late at night after my husband had gone to bed and only happens as long as I do not fall into another rabbit hole of some sort on television or Google. I tend to try to do cases that “grab” me in the moment. When I am more interested in the case I will not only dig more into the research but I will also enjoy doing it more. That in turn makes them easier and quicker to do and, in my opinion, makes it better. Since this is a “re-launch” of sorts it is making it more difficult. I have vowed not to copy and paste from previous blog for a multitude of reasons. Information can change, sometimes even in much older cases, over time. Sometimes things are added; sometimes t...

Alex Murdaugh and the Fall of a Dynasty

Where or how do you even begin to tell the story of disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh? I mean this man, and his actions have all but single handily destroyed literally a family empire that last well over a hundred years. His family was so powerful the area in a five county district was called “Murdaugh Country.” They even had to remove a picture of one of his ancestors in the courthouse during his murder trial in 2023 as not to taint the jury or anyone else. I have had such difficulty in pulling this together that I have started, erased and restarted this story three times now. So, this time around I am going to try something different and more like a previous blog. I am going to tell you the story, basically as it happened and then we will analyze things. Now, some will tell you that know the story that if I am going to start at the beginning I should start with the Stephen Smith case in 2015 or the Gloria Satterfield case in 2018. I will mention these two cases closer ...

Ken McElroy and the town of Skidmore Missouri

I cannot tell you the first true crime story I remember hearing about or what was the first movie or book I read related to true crime. What I can tell you is that I have known about this story for many, many years and it is one I have always found fascinating. That should not be surprising since this case has had a following for more than forty years and is something Skidmore wish would go away. Some say the events of July 10, 1981 put a curse on the town of Skidmore. It is a small farming community that technically is less than one square mile. Unless you have lived in or near farming towns I am unsure I can even describe it to you. To the average person it does not even seem like a town, but officially it is. According to Wikipedia Skidmore covers about 270 acres. Now, that being said there are farms scattered throughout the area that officially probably have a Skidmore address but are not within the “town limits” per se. It was said that the peak of their population wa...
